Drama ► «In 1962, young newlyweds Sam (Turner) and Clara (Chung) Wells are struggling to save their failing marriage, which has been weak for over a year. Sensible, diligent Sam feels cramped by his stressful job at a corporate firm and Clara’s eagerness to please him, while adventurous, spirited Clara feels cheated out of life, and realizes that Sam is not the boy she fell for. To avoid the tension at home, Sam throws himself into his work; Clara, meanwhile, copes with his neglect through shoplifting. Sam’s newfound dedication at work impresses his arrogant boss Tom Gray (Kane), who grants him a large promotion. It turns out to be a spot in Tom’s illegal scheme to cheat the clients for a little extra cash, but the money is too good to refuse, and for a moment it results in Sam and Clara’s mutual happiness. That all changes when Sam runs into Tom’s wife, Tess (Vandenberg), at a company cocktail party. Like Sam, Tess is bored and unhappy with her marriage to Tom, who fails to entertain her. Sam finds it incredibly difficult to refuse when Tess suggests they have an affair, despite knowing full well that if Tom finds out, Sam will lose more than just his job.

Clara is suspicious when Sam begins working longer hours, and is saddened when she stumbles across a message from Tess. Undaunted by the discovery of another woman, Clara decides to engage in vying for Sam’s affection, while Tom corners Sam in the office bathroom, assaults him, and warns him “not to touch things that aren’t [his]”. Tess insists they continue their relationship, having become possessive, and Sam is horrified to discover that not only does Clara know about the affair, she and Tess have a history—a dark one. Meanwhile, Tom gets closer and closer to catching them, and Sam realizes that this was never a harmless affair, especially when he finds himself caught in a game of tug-of-war between his wife and his girlfriend.
